Newkirk Electric opened its doors in Flint, Michigan in 1961 as an "electrical systems specialist", and quickly developed capabilities in high voltage work to help Consumers Power Company build its power distribution/substation system throughout the state. From there, Newkirk ventured into power plants and served as the primary electric contractor on many of the state's largest power generation units starting with the award of the 1,872 MW Ludington Pumped Storage plant in 1968, at the time the largest civil construction project in the world.
Newkirk Electric was founded by a group of greatest generation war veterans, led by the company's namesake Arland Newkirk, with an unyielding drive to build a great company. Their work ethic and integrity are deeply embedded into the core fibers of Newkirk Electric. When founding shareholder Chris Anton purchased controlling interest of Newkirk Electric in 1973, he continued to foster this legacy. This proved successful in fueling the company's growth from a small regional electrical contractor to one of the largest in the United States today.
Newkirk Electric offers truly comprehensive electrical design and construction services for all types of projects both large and small. Partnering with our internal, full-service engineering subsidiary, Theka Engineering, we are able to provide turnkey projects from complete design through construction and commissioning.
Join a company where you can feel like you belong. Newkirk Electric is a place where you will find all of the benefits of working for a larger company with the values of a smaller, family business. We offer excellent pay and benefits, work-life balance, and connection with other fun, hard-working people.

Had damage to my meter base, mast, and weather head after a tree fell and ripped down the power line. Power company couldn't restore service until that stuff was fixed. Called Newkirk and late on a Saturday night they had 2 guys out here in about an hour, got everything repaired and cleaned up in less than 2 hours so the power company could restore our service. Couldn't recommend them more!

My experience with Newkirk is not a pleasant one. They were working in the southwest Michigan area along U.S. 131. They destroyed the property although saying they would leave the property the way they found it. Yeah right. Their cleanup crew is a complete joke. They "leveled" out an area their equipment tore up and layed down grass seed erosion barrier.

We had to pull up what they layer down to finish grading the ground. Big mounds of dirt combined with pieces of 4x4 remained. Also some areas they did not even use any grass seed. Same property still has chain link fence that was never replaced along with old fence posts scattered throughout property. Debries remains everywhere. Terrible cleanup by them and because of that I am still picking things up after them. If you have a choice do not do business with these clowns.

Called Newkirk to have a temporary service installed from a fire we had. Service guys showed up in a few day and got to work installing power to panel. Inspector arrived and approved work, Consumers arrive and check work and approved. Service guy indicated Newkirk is numer one with them. Completed the work and the building contractors were greatful for their scheduling promptness.

Employees are very unprofessional and make hurtful/racist remarks to African-American co-workers. All day long I heard the "n word" used toward one guy specifically, but joking or not he did not seem to enjoy it. And I do not appreciate any treatment of that sort on/near my property and especially not around my family. It's unbelievable that a decent size company such as Newkirk would send these kinds of people to a job. I understand that everyone has an opinion and I respect that, but your opinion is yours. No need to be publicly degrade someone like that. No matter joke or not.

We want to thank Nick Soapchinski and his crew from Newkirk Electric for saving us on sw 69th ave in Miami/ South Miami after Hurricane Irma. Thank you Newkirk for sending such kind and hardworking men down to help out South Florida. Nick's word is his bond as he went out of his way to solve a hard to do job to get the the last 2 house powered up. Newkirk should be proud of their men as they were well represented!
