Spivey Properties, Inc. was established in March of 1971. During the first several years of operation, Spivey Properties was mainly an electrical contractor with focus in the residential market in Douglas County, Georgia. Later, the company concentrated on development of shopping centers and small commercial projects.

John C. Spivey Jr. was the force behind the company during this time. In 1986, J. Collis Spivey III re-joined the firm as President and Operations Manager. Collis changed the direction of the company more toward commercial and industrial jobs.
